Spider Veins

Australian Vein Clinics

AVC Treats very small or dilated veins commonly seen on the legs and face, and other parts of the body painlessly with Sclerotherapy.

What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are small damaged veins that appear on the surface of the skin. They can appear anywhere on the body but are predominately found on the face and legs. They can present as blue, red or purple and often appear bunched, webbed or like branches.

Spider veins are usually an early warning sign of future venous issues due to weakening valves in the larger vein tributaries. Similar to Varicose veins the valves weaken and stop working effectively resulting in pooling and backflow of blood thus causing veins to swell.

The spider veins on your face are often a result of sun damage, burst capillaries and age. Even though Spider veins are typically painless and harmless they can result in low self esteem and body image issues. No one should feel uncomfortable in their own skin which is why Australian Vein Clinics can easily treat them for you!

Common Questions

Treatment is very similar to the treatment of Varicose Veins. Sclerotherapy is the most common vein treatment. It involves injecting an irritant solution that results in the vein walls sticking together and ceasing blood flow to that area. Over time the vein will shrink and disappear.

Yes, once injected the small spider veins will begin to disappear. You may require more than one treatment session as we can only inject a certain amount of solution at one time. Typically it may be one leg at a time.

You may feel some slight pinching from the needle going into the vein but that is all. Dr John Marx has a special needle that vibrates. The vibration significantly reduces the pain, and increases the accuracy.
