So you are sick and tired of your varicose veins? Whether that be for aesthetic reasons, or the pain and discomfort they are causing you, the next step is getting rid of them once and for all! There are many different treatment options and medical professionals for Venous Diseases so it can be hard to choose the right clinic.
What to look for in a Vein Clinic:
When starting your search for the best place to get your veins treated, it can be overwhelming trying to find the best option for you. There are a couple of key things that we recommend considering while you search:
The Qualifications and Experience of Their Team:
It seems self-explanatory, but both the experience and qualifications of the practicing staff are the most important considerations when choosing your vein clinic. To ensure the safest and most effective treatment, treating doctors should be Phlebologists. It is also important to have an in-house Sonographers that specialises in Vascular Imaging. The sonographer will play a big part in many of your treatments, guiding the placement of all injections

What is a Phlebologist?
A Phlebologist is a title given to Fellows of the Australasian College of Phlebology who have undergone extensive training and examination. After become medically qualified doctors (Bachelor of Medicine/ Bachelor of Surgery), a phlebologist completes post-graduate training to specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of venous diseases; including varicose and spider veins.
Their Initial Consult:
The initial consult is a very important part of the vein removal procedure. In this consult it is vital that the vein specialist discusses your full venous history, discovers the root causes of your venous disease and recommends a personalised treatment plan for your varicose or spider veins. An integral part of this process is doing an ultrasound of the area, to get a clear map of the veins lying underneath the surface.
So you have found a clinic offering a free consult that will only go for 20 minutes? Chances are their aim is to attract as many patients as possible to give a quick sales pitch to. Without enough time or resources to complete a proper consultation, they will not be able to recommend an appropriate treatment that is tailored to your veins that will get you the best outcome.
Why search for an alternative to Vein Surgery:
If you have met with a Vascular Surgeon who has suggested that Vein Stripping surgery is your only option, we encourage you to get a second opinion.
Vein stripping surgery was once the most effective treatment of Varicose Veins. But over the past 30 years, as medicine and technology has advanced, Non-Surgical vein removal treatments have become the preferred treatment. Results for non-invasive vein treatments are comparable to that of vein stripping surgery, however the costs, downtime, and risks are far lower. This is because non-invasive treatments do not require general anesthetic or a hospital visit, this significantly lowers the costs involved. There is also less of a disruption to your everyday life, with most non-invasive vein treatments allowing you to resume work and everyday activities that same day.
